These games, included Quake 2 among others. This was heralded as a newer and superior tile based rendering chipset, but unfortunately it was released around the same time as the Nvidia GeForce2 MX. What was the best tech product of prohpet There are far more detailed reports on the rendering herculew in the Kyro chipset, but here, I’m just going to concentrate on how it performs.
Tile-based rendering and HSR allows a graphics card whose chipset and RAM are both clocked at a relatively low MHz to compete against products with faster specifications on paper.

Customize The Tech Report The also sports a matching blue chip cooler and fan, which might be overkill for a small, MHz chip, but it looks tough. Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme review: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme 8.
Thanks to the Kyro II chipset, the 3D Prophet avoids this unnecessary work by breaking the scene into 32 by 16 pixel ’tiles’ — which are small enough to be held in the chip’s buffer without loading them into RAM — and running Hidden Surface Removal HSR routines to eliminate ‘invisible’ geometry. No Interruptions Day Shortbread. As prohet might expect from a prophte renowned for performance products, Hercules has moved away from the typical 32MB board design and fitted the 3D 400 with 64MB the maximum amount supported by the Kyro II.
The picture below shows the differences between the two different rendering platforms. Although the 3D graphics accelerator market is increasingly dominated by nVidia, a few competitors remain willing and able to challenge the market leader.
Hercules’ 3D Prophet 4500 graphics card
We decided it was formidable competition for GeForce2 MX-based cards, but a few driver glitches and lackluster performance held the Kyro back. LG HU85L projector needs but two inches to cast a 90″ picture.
Like previous PowerVR chipsets, it’s the way that the Kyro II rewrites the rules of the 3D rendering process that gives it an edge over more traditional hardware. Any textures that would have been processed and applied to these culled objects are also discarded before they are passed across the card’s bit bus, significantly reducing the workload and bandwidth required. The 3D Prophet is the result. As you can see from our benchmark results, the 3D Prophet may not come close to matching the GeForce3’s outstanding FSAA performance, but it can still manage a playable plus frames per second until you switch to the demanding four-samples-per-pixel technique. The Kyro II follows on in the line of PowerVR cards that do the rendering in a completely different way, to put it simply the Kyro chipset only renders what is visible in a 3D scene.
A notch above expectation. Hercules sells a version of the card with a television output, but our test unit didn’t have one.
These two companies worked with Hercules to improve the Kyro’s drivers and otherwise make the Kyro II product competitive. My Profile Log Out. Hercules’ 3D Prophet is a shock, though.
